Sardines

Hey everyone! It’s been two weeks since I wrapped up the sardine challenge, clocking in at 193.7 lbs. So, what’s the scale saying now? As of 10/3/2024, I’m at 194.8 lbs. Not bad, right?

Healthy habits have become much easier. Do I still get tempted? Absolutely. I’d be lying if I said no. The biggest change I’ve made is being more mindful of what I eat and saving carbs for special occasions. However, the real challenge has been staying hydrated. There have been days when I completely forget to drink water, and the migraines are real. Advil and Excedrin are my go-to fixes for those situations.

Vegetables have become a huge part of my diet. I used to dodge them when I was overweight, but now, I enjoy adding them to my meals. I’m trying to avoid overcooking them or using too much olive oil. Sure some veggies are just tastier when cooked, like zucchinis and brussel sprouts with a sprinkle of salt, peper and a drizzle of olive oil.

Arugula is my new favorite. I used to only order it at restaurants (shout out to Doheny Cafe), but now it’s a staple at home. I mix it with tuna, avocado mayo from Chosen Foods, black pepper, and hot sauce. If not for the fear of mercury poisoning, I’d probably eat this daily. The taste is amazing, especially after cutting out on tuna and sardines for years. Sometimes, I just grab a can of sardines when I’m too lazy to cook or have been in meetings all day.

My goal is to stick with this plan and add some light exercise. Right now, I’m doing 2×50 bodyweight squats, 2×40 pushups, and 2×40 bicycle crunches. I recently started cycling again, beginning with 24 miles to ease back into it. After a week, I ramped it up to 10 miles a night with a Peloton resistance of 52. My times aren’t great, but it’s better than sitting around waiting to fall asleep and watching things on the iPad. I mostly use this time to catch up on YouTube, anime and/or KDrama.

Will I keep this up? Time will tell. My goal is to get below 180 lbs by the end of the year. That’s nearly 15 lbs to lose during the toughest time of the year, with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. Wish me luck, and let’s see how close I get!

Good luck with your journey! 🎉🏋️‍♂️
