Day 2 of Sardine Challenge: Energy Struggles & Keto Adjustments

Day 2 is in the books.

I started with two cans of Wild Pacific Sardines, seasoned with black pepper and salt for some extra flavor. Surprisingly, I’m really enjoying the taste—no issues with downing them. However, the hardest part today was just getting out of bed. I felt extremely tired and lacked the energy to start my day.

After my son’s swimming class, we got home, and I had another two cans of sardines (while my wife and kid enjoyed pizza). Despite not doing much, I was exhausted and ended up taking a nap. It’s strange how many people on ketosis or similar challenges say they feel energized—today, I just felt sluggish until that nap.

Post-nap, a trip to the Irvine Spectrum helped. Walking around and dodging people got my energy up a bit. While my family ate Pho, I stuck with tea. Even though everything smelled delicious, I didn’t feel any strong cravings to abandon the challenge, which was a small win.

Later, I had another can of sardines, this time with Tabasco sauce for some added spice. With zero carbs and minimal calories (1 per tsp), it’s a great way to add flavor without breaking the diet. Sadly, I found out Sriracha contains sugar, so that’s off the table for now.

One more thing—hydration was key today. I made sure to drink plenty of water to suppress hunger and avoid dehydration. I tend to forget to stay hydrated, which often leads to migraines. Though it resulted in more restroom trips, it was worth it to avoid feeling both hungry and headachy.

Overall, aside from waking up more exhausted than usual, Day 2 went smoothly. It makes me wonder, for those not in peak fitness or already on a low-carb diet, do they also feel this level of fatigue? Maybe my past inactivity has something to do with it, but I’m curious to see how others experience this type of challenge.
