Extremely Disappointing Once Again
With the cowboys sitting at 5-8 and Dak on season-ending IR let’s take a look ahead to the draft and a potential top 10 draft pick.

My prediction that this was going to be a lost season have come true and Dak’s injury was the nail in the coffin for those expecting any type of turn around. The reality of this season was that it was a completely flawed team and Jerry and Maccarthy did nothing to address their biggest weakness: running back, offensive line and defensive line. Instead they opted to go through the bargain bin again in hopes that Dak could carry them to the promise land, while selling that they were “all in”. Any sane person would’ve told you that was just Jerry being the showman he always is and providing no tangible reason to believe this year was different.
While I will never doubt Jerry’s passion for wanting to win (he’s a former athlete and 3 time Super Bowl winner), I doubt how his son and team is being run. It’s a shame to see how much talent is coming through and leaving without getting an opportunity to compete in a Super Bowl. It’s so sad to see Tyron Smith leave in free agency not having been to a conference final game and soon Zack Martin and D-Law will be in the same boat due to “cap” reasons. Zack Martin and Tyron Smith are future first ballot Hall of Famers and never got to sniff the conference finals because of bad coaching.
Moving to the draft, for those still waiting for Mazi Smith and Luke Schnoomaker to break out I ask to please share me whatever you are drinking. I felt it was a reach then and any one who watches football in some sense can tell you Dallas missed on those guys. A non-impact DT at the end of the first round and blocking tight end in the second round just doesn’t make sense then and makes even less sense now. People will argue, you have to give them the benefit of the doubt because they’ve hit on so many previous years. But you have to recall why they “hit” on those guys. Dak = luxury pick in the 4th round (not even the QB they wanted). Ceedee = luxury pick because he fell to them in the draft (they never expected him to be there). Parsons = They didn’t even want him and traded back once Surtain and Horn were gone (they wanted a CB). In many of those cases, they took the best available player over what they “needed”, which is exactly what they did with Mazi and Luke and why they’re BUSTs.
Looking Ahead to the Draft

Looking at this years draft, one of the thing that scares me is that Dallas will fall into the trap of reaching for a player. I’m looking at Ashton Jentry and he’s someone that would be a great fit. First off, let’s get this out of the way. Dak’s best seasons are with a strong running game. If there’s any debate, look at the years the Cowboys make the playoffs and the years they have missed since Dak has been the starting QB. Without a strong running game, he has missed the playoffs and had subpar years. He is very dependent on having a strong running game because it takes a lot of pressure off him. That is also why he has never been able to get pass SF in the playoffs because they shut down the running game and force Dak into having to make reads, which is not his strength. This is why I always thought Romo was in a different tier compared to Dak. While you can look at the stats and say Dak’s is superior you have to see the team around Dak compared to Romo. Romo had 1-2 good years of DeMarco Murray and Dak had 4-5 years of prime Zeke + Pollard.
